Description:
Flora and Fauna is a printmaking project made through the Gum Arabic Transfer technique. Ink is mixed with gum arabic and oils to allow for ink to be pressed into laser printed illustrations and then transferred onto masa through a printing press.
I took advantage of this process by breaking up my designs into sections and coloring them differently. I then arranged the colored pieces across my paper and ran them through the press to create multi-colored Gum Arabic transfer prints.
I chose to create my designs inspired by Andy Warhol's hand-drawn outlines and pastel watercolor pieces from his collection "In The Bottom of My Garden". I was interested in the bright colors he used, and I wondered how similar characters would look in bright inky colors through Gum Arabic Transfer.
